Which health services are available in Camden?

Some children will need to see one health professional only such as a speech and language therapist, occupational therapist or physiotherapist through hospitals, children's centres and schools.

Children with more complex needs and disability will have their needs met in a better way through MOSAIC. Our health professionals work closely together with you to ensure that joint assessments are carried out when your child needs to see more than one health professional.

We have a number of specialist services that support children’s centres, nurseries and schools to meet the health needs of children with special educational needs and disability.

MOSAIC

MOSAIC  is our integrated service for children and young people with disabilities, where all services are based in Kentish Town Health Centre. The service brings together health and care services so that families get the help they need through one service.

Child Development Team

The Child Development Team sees children from 0 - 5 years of age with complex developmental difficulties. 

The team consists of a range of professionals including Paediatricians, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietician, Specialist Health Visitor, Clinical Psychologists, Child Psychotherapists, Therapy Assistant, and Keyworkers.

Health visiting

Health visiting is a universal service to families if they have a child under five. The Health Visiting Service provides a home visiting and community-based service to support children and families in promoting health and well-being.

Community children’s nursing service

The Community children’s nursing service supports children in schools and at home with complex medical needs.

The Camden school nursing service is a service where there are nurses based in schools who support children in schools.

Community nutrition and dietetics service

The Community nutrition and dietetics service helps children who have problems with food.

Speech and language therapy service

The Speech and Language Therapy service offers a service to children from birth to 19 years who have speech and language delays and disorders.

Children’s 2nd tier audiology (hearing) service

The Children’s 2nd tier audiology (hearing) service is a service that assesses and treats children and young people's hearing.

Occupational therapy

The children's Occupational therapy service helps children with disabilities in managing all the tasks of everyday life, such as eating, dressing and self-care.

Community equipment service for children with disabilities

The Community equipment service for children with physical disabilities provides equipment that children may need to help improve of maintain their health and independence.

Children’s physiotherapy

Children’s physiotherapists work with children or young people to improve movement and normal body function.

Camden child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS)

Camden child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) helps children and young people who have problems with things such as behaviour, self-esteem or depression. Find out more by clicking here.

Continence, bladder and bowel care service

The Continence, Bladder and Bower Care service helps provide support and advice to help with managing children's continence.

Whittington Health Community Dental Service

Whittington Health Community Dental Service Camden arrange dental services to priority needs groups who have difficulty accessing services from NHS dentists, for example, children with special needs. Find out more here.

The Children’s complex and continuing care team delivers specialised homecare packages for children and young people with complex health needs that are dependent on technology to live.

Integrated Care Support Team

The Integrated Care Support Team works closely with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a child’s health needs are appropriately managed and there is a clear and co-ordinated plan in place.

Wheelchair service

Camden has a wheelchair service for children and adults based in the borough of Camden, in Kentish Town. For details on the service see Camden and Islington Wheelchair Service.

An organisation that can help your disabled child with mobility equipment and can sometimes work jointly with the local authority is Whizz-KIDZ.

Transition to adult care

Within each of the health teams, there are transition teams and processes to ensure the smooth transition from children's health services to adult services. For example if you are seeing a paediatrician, there will be a transition and smooth handover to adult doctors.

Please ask a member of the relevant team who will be able to advise you. There is also health, wellbeing and leisure information for young people on the preparing for adult life, being healthy section.

If you are eligible for a service from Camden Learning Disability Service, as it is an integrated service with social workers and health workers, during transition you will likely receive health and social care services from this team.
