Bengali Workers Association Raising Aspirations Project

There are two key elements to the Project. First is the Community Leadership Programme (CLP) which aims to give an insight into the way society works by expanding the vision, influencing and decision-making ability of emerging young leaders. The CLP aims to provide participants with the inspiration, information and opportunities they need to gain more effective leadership and negotiating skills, understanding diversity within society, developing decision-making skills, public speaking and presentation skills in their own environment, in the community and in society as a whole. Second is the Social Action Project where participants collaborate in order to promote a deeper understanding of the cultural, social and economic issues that affect different communities across Camden. This project aims to test leadership in the context of a group of peers. By building resilience it aims to embed the fact that every individual has a place in the community and a role to play in its development. Every decision-maker needs an understanding of the context in which they operate, if they are to be effective in the community or in business. It also aims to ensure the understanding that diversity in a community is a strength, not a weakness, as from it comes the fertility of ideas and imagination, which every strong community needs.
