Our service provides:

1. Area Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) support to settings and centres in Camden. These are nurseries in children's centres, private, voluntary and independent nursery settings. This includes information about the responsibilities of settings under the SEND Code of Practice for the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities; signposting to other agencies if appropriate.

2. Training for staff through the IEYS central training programme such as 'An introduction to the role of the SENCO' – written for Camden nursery SENCOs; High Incidence Needs and how to meet them; Training on local SEND procedures. We also offer bespoke training for a setting or a particular child's needs.

3. Direct Interventions for a child requiring a specialist programme.

4. Support for SENCOs in Multi-Agency working where a child's needs are severe and complex and requires a multi-agency team response.

Where is the service located and what areas does it cover?

The EYIT is one service within the Integrated Early Years Service. We are based in 5 Pancras Square and cover the whole area of Camden.

Who does your service provide for?

Children’s centres, nurseries, private, voluntary and independent nursery settings.

How can a child or young person start using the service?

They must be referred to the team by their nursery setting on a Common Assessment Form [CAF]

How are decisions made about eligibility for your service?

Each child receives a visit from a team member who gathers information and makes recommendations for the child’s programme.

How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making/planning?

All referrals must be signed and agreed by the parent. All initial formulations include a consultation with the child’s parent. All planning meetings involve the child’s parent. All programmes are agreed with the parents and should include parental input. All decisions about further referrals will be made cooperatively with parents. Parents can seek and are offered advice about the process and procedures the team follows.

Is your service fully accessible?

We work with children where they are based in children’s centres, nurseries, private, voluntary and independent nursery settings, which are accessible.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had/or will be they be getting?

All staff are very experienced in work with children within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The team includes qualified teachers and an educational psychologist. All the team are trained in Portage, PECs, Makaton, Leuven’s scales Some team members are TeacCh trained, Intensive Interaction trained Some team members are Solihull Approach Trainers Some team members are Earlybird trainers Some team members are Video Interactive Guidance trained
