Inclusive Intervention Team (Camden Council) (IIT)

The Inclusive Intervention Team (IIT) is a Camden Council service for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We work with nurseries in the private, voluntary and independent (PVI) sectors and maintained nurseries and children’s centres in Camden. We support nursery settings to implement the ‘Assess, Plan, Do, Review’ cycle, as outlined in the SEND Code of Practice (2015).

The IIT aims to:
• Support inclusive practices and activities for Early Years settings and staff to support children with SEND
• Fully involve parents in the process of supporting children with SEND
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in other teams
• Help with access to services
• Support with transitions to school.

This includes:
• Meetings with parents and SEND Co-ordinators (SENDCOs) to discuss children’s needs
• Nursery visits and observations
• Support with monitoring of children’s progress over time
• Support with Individual Education Plans (IEP) and review processes
• Advice on interventions
• Multi-agency planning with colleagues from other teams
• Support for the transition of children with SEND into, or from, nursery
• General advice on SEND processes and procedures
• Specialist equipment loans
• Signposting to other services or agencies.

The IIT also support childminders with phone advice if they are concerned about specific children with SEND.

Where is the service located and what areas does it cover?

The Inclusive Intervention Team (IIT) is one service within the Special Education and Inclusive Intervention Services (SEIIS). We are based in 5 Pancras Square and cover the whole area of Camden.

Who does your service provide for?

Children’s centres, nurseries, private, voluntary and independent nursery settings.

How can a child or young person start using the service?

They must be referred to the team by their nursery setting on a Common Assessment Form [CAF]

How are decisions made about eligibility for your service?

Each child receives a visit from a team member who gathers information and makes recommendations for the child’s programme.

How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making/planning?

All referrals must be signed and agreed by the parent. All initial formulations include a consultation with the child’s parent. All planning meetings involve the child’s parent. All programmes are agreed with the parents and should include parental input. All decisions about further referrals will be made cooperatively with parents. Parents can seek and are offered advice about the process and procedures the team follows.

Is your service fully accessible?

We work with children where they are based in children’s centres, nurseries, private, voluntary and independent nursery settings, which are accessible.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had/or will be they be getting?

All staff are very experienced in work with children within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The team includes qualified teachers and an educational psychologist. All the team are trained in Portage, PECs, Makaton, Leuven’s scales Some team members are TeacCh trained, Intensive Interaction trained Some team members are Solihull Approach Trainers Some team members are Earlybird trainers Some team members are Video Interactive Guidance trained
