The Community Paediatric Doctors are a consultant led team of specialist children’s doctors. All members of the team have skills and expertise in the diagnosis and management of children with Developmental delays and disorders including conditions such as Epilepsy, Autism, Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy.
We get involved if there are concerns about a child’s health or development in one or more of the following developmental areas:
- Speech, language and communication
- Chronic ill health/ long term conditions
- Physical health/development
- Cognitive development (understanding) or learning
- Social communication
- Emotional or behavioural needs in addition to disability
- Eating, drinking and swallowing
- Hearing or vision
We make a holistic medical assessment of each child and identify any other coexisting medical conditions. We work closely with our multi-disciplinary teams including MOSAIC (the integrated service for disabled children) to assess and meet the health needs of children and young people with developmental disorders, disabilities or special needs. As community paediatricians we also work closely with, and provide medical advice to, the Local Authority special educational needs service and social care services. We are always mindful of children’s emotional and behavioural development and their safeguarding.
