Whittington Health Community Dental Service Camden and Islington

(Formerly known as Camden and Islington Community Dental Service)

Arrange dental services to priority needs groups who have difficulty accessing services from NHS dentists, for example, children with special needs, adults with disabilities, housebound people and homeless people.

We provide the following dental services:

  • Adult Special Care Dentistry
  • Paediatric Dentistry
  • Oral Surgery
  • Public Health and Oral Health Promotion activities
  • Fluoride Varnish Programmes

Where is the service located and what areas does it cover?

Dental care is provided from community sites across Camden, Islington, Haringey and Enfield.

Who does your service provide for?

We specialise in the dental treatment of children and adults with special care needs who cannot be treated in general dental practice.

How can a child or young person start using the service?

Access is by referral only, we accept referrals from

  • Dentists
  • Doctors
  • Other health professionals: health visitors, nurses
  • Carers of patients
  • Voluntary organisations
How are decisions made about eligibility for your service?

All referrals are triaged to ensure they fit our admission criteria.  Information on our admission criteria can be found on our referral forms.

How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making/planning?

Patients are fully involved in all decisions about their treatment and care, they are given a full explanation on all their treatment choices 

Is your service fully accessible?

Yes – all sites are fully Equality Act compliant

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had/or will be they be getting?

All staff must complete all mandatory training (including Child Safeguarding )
