SENDIASS Parent/Carer Support Group

The Support Group allows parents/carers to meet for mutual support in a safe environment where confidentiality is respected.

The Parent Carer Support Group welcomes parents/carers of children and young people who have, or may have, a special educational need (SEN) or disability or, who are concerned about their child’s development/progress.

The Group generally meets from 10am – 12.30pm. Parents/Carers can get together to discuss any issues, and provide support and friendship to each other.

Where is the service located and what areas does it cover?

The group meets at Highgate Newtown Community Centre and is available to any parent/carer living in Camden.

Who does your service provide for?

Parents/carers in Camden who wish to meet with others to share experiences and receive support.

How can a child or young person start using the service?

The service is for parents and carers and is therefore not open to children and young people.

How are decisions made about eligibility for your service?

Parent / carers can self refer

How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making/planning?

Communication is usually via the SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs and Disability Information, Advice and Support Service) previously known as the Parent Partnership Service, or the facilitator, Eddie Edwards.

Is your service fully accessible?

The Community Centre is fully wheelchair accessible with a suitable lift and toilet facilities. There is flexibility within the Centre and waiting areas are available.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had/or will be they be getting?

The Group Facilitator is a grandparent of a child with special educational needs, currently at Swiss Cottage School. He is fully aware of the requirements of the Children and Families Act and Code of Practice.
