Traineeships (Camden Council)

A traineeship is an education and training programme that is focused on giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for. Traineeships cover three core areas: English and maths, employability skills, work experience. A traineeship lasts between 6 weeks and 6 months with potential progression to an apprenticeship or into employment.

Where is the service located and what areas does it cover?: A list of traineeship providers can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/traineeships-eligible-providers. A young person can access any training provider regardless of borough, however, traineeship providers in Camden and neighbouring boroughs include: • 5E Ltd – Information Technology, retail, business administration, customer service • Barnet and Southgate College – flexible on skill area • Harington Scheme – Retail, horticulture • Jobwise Training – Business Administration • Skills Training UK - general • Westminster Kingsway College – Hospitality and Business Admin • City of Westminster College – Business Administration • Lifetime training – active leisure and hospitality • Redwood Skills – Business, sales, Information Technology
Who does your service provide for?: Traineeships are available to young people between the ages of 16 and 25 who have not yet gained a full level 2 qualification and are looking to gain employment/an apprenticeship in the near future.

How are decisions made about eligibility for your service?: There are no set eligibility criteria, but each training provider or college may have criteria that they use.
How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making/planning?: Each training provider/college will design their own traineeships – please contact providers directly about this.
Is your service fully accessible?: Please contact the provider directly to find out more about accessibility.
What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had/or will be they be getting?: You can contact the provider directly to find out more about the training the staff have had in each of the places that Traineeships are provided.
Who should a service user contact if they want to raise a concern or complain about something?: Any concerns or complaints should be raised following the provider’s complaints procedure in the first instance. If the complaint is not resolved, please contact Katy Pugh (as above).
