Centre 404

Centre 404 Learning and Leisure service provides after school and evening activities for children, young people and adults with a learning disability. The service also provides holiday activities for young people and drop in services for young people and adults.

Where is the service located and what areas does it cover?

404 Camden Road, Islington, N7 0SJ, London.

Centre 404 has services that are specific for Islington residents, but also has activities that are available to people with a learning disability in any borough.

Who does your service provide for?

Children through to adults with a Learning Disability and their families.

How can a child or young person start using the service?

They are able to call the Learning and Leisure team on 0207 697 1621 and self-refer. Alternatively a referral can be made through a parent or social worker.

How are decisions made about eligibility for your service?

A member must have a diagnosis of some form of a learning disability. Depending on the age of the person will define what groups they are able to access. For groups were there is a waiting list, membership is assessed on a case by case basis when a position becomes available.

How do you communicate with service users and how are they involved in decision making/planning?

Service users receive information regarding programmes in advance of any group taking place. Many of the activities that are provided are done in consultation with service users through questionnaires, feedback and planning sessions. There is also a Learning and Leisure committee that includes family members of service users, staff from Centre 404 and service users themselves to make decisions that affect the direction of the service.

Is your service fully accessible?

Yes our building is fully accessible, with changing places toilet and an accessible minibus.

What training have the staff supporting children and young people with SEND had/or will be they be getting?

Staff have training in moving and handling, first aid, challenging behaviour, team teach, food hygiene, epilepsy, dysphagia, health and safety, child protection for children and adults,  fire safety, infection control, equality and diversity, emergency medication administration, Makaton, Intensive Interaction, multi-sensory interaction, hate-mate crime
