Members of the Board work together to understand the health and wellbeing needs of the Camden population, agree priorities and encourage the people who buy health and care services (“commissioners”) to work in a more joined-up way. As a result, patients and the public should experience more joined-up services from the NHS and local councils. Each top tier and unitary local authority has its own health and wellbeing board. As a minimum, Boards are made up of locally elected representatives, Council Directors, representatives of the local Clinical Commissioning Group and a representative from the local Healthwatch organisation, but are free to expand their membership to include a wide range of perspectives and expertise, such as representatives from the charity or voluntary sectors.
