The Detached Youth Team (DYT) is a mobile street-based team of youth workers that engages with young people in a community setting, whether that is local estates, parks or other community spaces. The DYT forms part of the Reducing Youth Violence and Exploitation Service, which is part of Camden Council's Integrated Youth Support Service (IYSS). Our aim is to reach young people who do not access mainstream youth provision and we specialise in working with young people who are marginalised and hard-to-reach.
As part of this work, we run a range of projects and deliver activities based on young people’s needs and interests to support their personal, social and emotional development. Their learning outcomes are supported by an informal curriculum framework, which gives them the opportunity to gain skills, accreditations and qualifications.
In addition to working with young people in the community, we also deliver a range of workshops within schools to both primary and secondary pupils, chief of which is our Choices programme, which forms part of our schools offer (supporting the citizenship and PSHE curriculums) and focuses on choices and consequences, weapons awareness and decision-making.
